Inside Trade |The Famous of Them All – George Soros



We often encounter his name on the news and articles but did you ever wonder who he is? Well to give you a brief background, George Soros was just regarded as the “the man who broke the bank of England”

Born on the 12th of August 1930 in Budapest, Hungary, Soros experienced an early life full of struggle. He was just 13 years old when the Nazi occupied Hungary during the second  World War and was present to witness and survive the Battle of Budapest in 1945.

2 years after, he then migrated to England where he got his degree on the London School of Economics in 1952. He started his career immediately after he graduated and worked in an entry-level position at Singer & Friedlander. He industriously worked on his career ladder until the foundation of Soros Fund Management in 1970. In 1973, the Quantum fund was established in partnership with Jim Rogers.

The Quantum Fund plundered a huge amount throughout its existence. But the most famous of it was with the British pound sterling speculation in 1992. The event not only stigmatized Soros as “the man who broke the Bank of England,” but also gained an astonishing net profit of 2 billion USD in just a month's time.

At present, the gaze of the investor, philosopher, and philanthropist is upon the euro crisis. Giving out advice on countries in every step of the way.

Inside Trade | Intro to Resistance and Support


An observation done to the platform may lead to several conclusions. One of which is that the prices is going up and  down from time to time. It often fluctuates on a certain direction, either upward or downward, and on a certain extent.

The price fluctuation is caused by numerous factors and explaining the movement in details will be a very rigorous work.  But what we can do is determine  the size of the movement, the “extent” that was mentioned earlier. Resistance and Support levels determine these values.

Resistance is the value in which the price may go on an upward movement. On the other hand, Support is the value in which the price may go on a downward movement. A capable estimation of these levels gives a really huge advantage to traders. It points out the value of their potential profit and their danger zones.

Please take note that these values changes from time to time and are denoted on certain degrees. There are major and minor resistance and support levels are retested and determined repeatedly.

Inside Trade | Fibonacci



In the year 1202, a book entitled Liber Abaci was published by a celebrated mathematician of the middle ages – Leonardo Pisano Bigollo. The book, which may be translated as  “Book of Calculation,”  introduced the Hindu-Arabic numerical system to the western civilization and within that is the Fibonacci number theory.

Fibonacci number is a number sequence which includes 0,1,2,3,5,8,13,21, 34,55,89,144,... and so on and so forth. It is calculated by adding 1 to the first two number which is 0 and 1. After coming up with  the first two numbers, the next number will be a sum of the present and the previous number.

This number is specially exceptional because the numbers are connected by means of a constant relation, particularly their ratio. Every number belonging to the sequence are connected through the golden ratio (0.618 or 1.618).  The golden ratio may be found on almost every corner of the world and in almost any organism, even the human body has this number.

Fibonacci numbers are applied in the financial markets on various ways. But in Forex trading, it is used in determining the Support and Resistance levels. After forecasting the support and resistance level, an attainable target profit and unconstrained stop-loss level may be set by the trader.

Inside Trade | Sizing it up – Trade Volume


Traders often tend to be complacent about certain things in the trade as longs as they gain profit. They often doesn't want to be bothered by, what they think as, irrelevant information but unfortunately that should not be the case. One of those neglected topic is the trading volume.

Trading volume is determined by the number of transaction and the amount that a trader is conducting on a certain period of time. The opened transactions in which will determine the profit or loss in the near future must be carefully weighed and assessed because it can make or break the trader himself.

A heavy volume implies a huge return of investment. But If the volume is too heavy, the capital may not be able to handle the weight thus crushing the capital in the process by means of a margin call. If the volume is too light, the chance to profit will be limited. The traders must determined the amount that he/she is willing to lose and how much the capital could support the weight of positions.

Now that I had mentioned the trading periods in the previous article, I think its just appropriate to tackle the topic a bit further.

Currencies are not the only instrument traded in Forex. Precious metals which serve its value as a reliable investment instrument and a very good industrial commodity is also being transacted. Gone are the days wherein the the gold determines the value of the commodity. But it doesn't mean that it ended there.

Metal are ranked and traded in troy ounces. The first one on the list is the gold followed by the silver, platinum, and many other more. The metal operations are conducted in various ways. It may be spot, swap, and forward deals.

Metals are mostly used as an instrument for speculations, for hedging purposes, and risk diversification.

Metal trading is also similar to forex. It is available round-the-clock and dictated by the demand and supply in the market. Its similarity to Forex is even visible in the way that it is traded. Moreover, the fundamental and technical analysis also applies to it. Macroeconomic indicators that defines the economic and political atmosphere dictates the price of metals. Inside Trade | Forex Participants



The vast field of currency exchange are composed of immeasurable number of participants. The over-flowing transactions that sums up to billions of dollars everyday is a concrete evidence of it.

The immeasurable currency market's participants are classified into two groups: Active and Passive.

Active participants are referred as market makers either because of the their ability to set prices; or by becoming a major participant through the heavy volumes of their transaction. This cluster is mainly composed of commercial and central banks, and major brokers.

On the other hand, Passive participants are referred as market users because they are only capable of using the services available in the market. This includes investors like us.

Brokers and commercial banks are in the center of things whose role is to connect the active and passive participants in the market.  The Central banks regulates rates which in turn will be passed on to the investors by means of commercial banks or brokers. Central banks may at certain times intervene to  strengthen or weaken a currency. One of its example is the ECB's planned intervention to save the euro.

There are also other notable market players aside from brokers and banks. The import and export companies are also considered as major players in the market because they are constantly using the currency market in their business transactions. They are both consumers and providers of different currencies at the same time.

Insurance and investment funds who are handling asset portfolio are players as well. International transactions are most commonly done in huge volumes thus resulting to a large volume of exchange.

Inside Trade | Distinction between the Stock market and Currency market



The two financial markets, stock and forex, are closely linked with each other and its not really surprising if similarities between them arises. But we'll tackle that some other time and instead focus on the difference between them.

The financial instrument

Both markets are involved in trading. The techniques and certain indicators used in trading apply to both of them but there is a difference in the instrument being traded. Currencies are being exchanged in Forex while securities are being traded in the stock market

Participants

Participants in the stock market are required to find each other. This complicates things because the loss may increase substantially if the traders won't find each other in time.

Location

The trading of stocks may only be done on stock exchanges unlike Forex wherein trading may take place as long as there's an access to the internet.

Leverage

Margin trading is not applicable to the stock market. A trader may only buy a stock that his/her money can afford.

Working hours

Since trading in the stock market are situated on stock exchange centers, there's an opening and closing time. The time to trade is limited unlike forex wherein trading is done 24/7.

Inside Trade | Acquaintance with the emotional wave – Elliot Waves


Expansion – enthusiasm – euphoria – recession – depression; the emotional chain that dictates both traders and prices. Ralph Nelson Elliot, in his study of the stock market, discovered that the crowd behavior has a sequence and revolves in a cycle. It is made up of 5 waves, 3 of which are known as the impulse waves which is directed to the main trend and the remaining 3 are called corrective waves which are directed against the trend. After the main trend has fully developed, there are 3 waves that will develop to correct the price movement.


In the image above, the waves labeled with numbers 1,3,5 are the impulse waves while 2,4 are corrective waves. As a rule, the longer the impulse waves are the longer will be the corrective waves.
 Meanwhile, the waves labeled with letters are the ones that will correct the price movement.

The point of this analysis is that the price movement has a natural and cyclical flow. As traders, our only objective is to identify these waves and use it to our own advantage.
